The last time your animal friend got up close to say hello, did you have to turn away?  Do you find yourself wishing they made mouthwash and breath mints for pets?

Many pet owners mistakenly believe that bad breath is normal and that it’s something that they must simply learn to live with.  To the contrary, bad breath can be a sign that your pet is suffering from some type of dental problem, from plaque and tartar accumulation and gingivitis to periodontal disease, a much more serious yet common medical condition that can affect your companion’s entire body.  You can help your pet beat the odds by making a commitment to ongoing dental care, both professionally and personally.

The team at Brook-Falls Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Care is well versed in all aspects of pet dentistry, from routine preventative care to advanced care and treatment of existing oral health problems.  We use state of the art equipment to examine, clean and polish your pet’s teeth, removing plaque and tartar both above and below the gumline.  For best results, we recommend bringing your pet in at least once a year for dental care.

We perform digital dental radiology on all our dental patients.  It allows your pet’s dental team to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat existing oral and dental diseases such as dental caries (cavities), periodontal disease, bone loss, tooth root abscesses, tumors, fractures of the jaw, dead teeth and retained roots that would go unnoticed, if the teeth are only visually examined.  If your pet suffers from any type of dental problem, we’re well equipped and fully prepared to assist, correcting the problem or helping to manage it in a way that will improve your pet’s quality and length of life.

We’ll even show you how you can help your pet maintain healthy teeth and gums at home, in between veterinary visits.  Our friendly, knowledgeable staff will gladly provide guidance and demonstrations on home brushing techniques, as well as advice and recommendations on certain products that can help promote good dental health.  Together we’ll have your animal friend smiling pretty for life!

Signs that your pet may be suffering from dental problems include:

  • Bad breath

  • Discolored, loose or broken teeth

  • Red, swollen or bleeding gums

  • Difficulty chewing

  • Excessive drooling

  • Pawing at the mouth

If you notice your pet exhibiting any of these signs or symptoms, give us a call and schedule a dental check up right away.
